“Father of Interferon” Honored at 2010 Edward J. Ill Excellence in Medicine Awards
New Jersey-based Scientist Recognized for Contributions in Medical Research
Piscataway, NJ -- Sidney Pestka, M.D., the founder and Chief Scientific Officer of PBL InterferonSource, will be honored at the 2010 Edward J. Ill Excellence in Medicine Awards as Outstanding Medical Research Scientist for Basic Biomedical Research (www.ejiawards.org).
The award, which began in 1939, is named after Edward J. Ill, M.D., a physician from Newark, NJ, who is remembered for his pioneering work that helped set national standards for continuing medical education. Before there were any medical education institutions available in the state, or any requirements to keep medical practices current with technology, his idealistic philosophy helped elevate the quality of healthcare.
Currently, Dr. Pestka is Chairman and Professor of the Department of Microbiology, Molecular Genetics and Immunology at UMDNJ Robert Wood Johnson Medical.
This annual ceremony, sponsored by MDAdvantage Insurance Company of New Jersey since 2004, will be held on May 5, 2010, at the Hyatt Regency Princeton.
